توطئة: الهدف من هذا التطبيق المتقتضب جمع مذاهب التحليل النفسي لعرضها عرضًا تقريريًا إن جاز القول، في أوضح شكل ممكن وأكثره تركيزًا. ولم نرم قط بعملنا هذا إلى كسب ثقة أو انتزاع اقتناع. إن تعاليم التحليل النفسي تنهض على عدد لا يقع تحت حصر من المشاهدات والتجارب، ومن لم يتحقق في نفسه أو لدى الآخرين من هذه المشاهدات لا يملك أن يصدر عليها حكمًا مستقلًا. مختصر التحليل النفسي بدأه فرويد في تموز ١٩٣٨ في منفاه بلندن، ولكنه لم يتمه إذ حضرته الوفاة في ٢٣ أيلول ١٩٣٩. ولم يتخط المؤلف القسم الثالث، وإننا لنجهل ما كانت مقاصده بصدد تتمة الكتابب. كذلك فإن الفصل الثالث، خلافًا لسائر فصول الكتاب، كتب بأسلوب مختصر.

Foreword: The purpose of this brief application is to compile the doctrines of psychoanalysis to present it as a presentation, so to speak, in the clearest and most focused form possible. We have never done so by earning confidence or extracting conviction. The teachings of psychoanalysis stand on an unlimited number of observations and experiences, and those who did not verify themselves or others with these observations do not have to make an independent judgment on them. A brief psychoanalysis, Freud started in July 1938 in his exile in London, but he did not complete it when he attended death on September 23, 1939. The author did not skip the third section, and we are not aware of what his intentions were regarding the continuation of the book. Also, unlike the rest of the book, the third chapter is written in a concise style.
